Carrum Downs is young by Melbourne standards. The Botany Park estate was built in the late 1970s and early 1980s on generous lots, and most of the housing followed from the 1980s onward. Another pocket, once known as Botany Bush, was redeveloped into housing during the late 1990s. The population went from 365 in 1954 to more than 19,000 by 2011. So the roofs here are mostly concrete tile on brick veneer, with Colorbond on many of the later homes.
